Position Overview:

The Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is responsible for delivering skilled, compassionate, and personalized nursing care to patients within a critical care environment. This role ensures that care is not only safe and efficient but also tailored to meet the diverse cultural, spiritual, and ethnic needs of patients and their families, aligning with the mission and core values of New England Baptist Hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct patient care, making informed nursing judgments to cater to the needs of various patient populations.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans that adhere to current nursing standards, policies, and protocols.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional excellence and take accountability for patient safety.
  • Ensure accurate patient identification during care delivery in accordance with established policies.
  • Administer medications following hospital guidelines and monitor patient responses to treatments.
  • Collect and label specimens for diagnostic tests while adhering to patient identification protocols.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate patient medical records in line with hospital policies.
  • Manage pain effectively, ensuring thorough assessment and documentation of patient pain levels.
  • Facilitate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring smooth transitions in care.
  • Collaborate with ancillary departments as necessary and confirm patient admission history using electronic medical records.
  • Act as an advocate for patients, communicating effectively with the care team.
  • Delegate appropriate patient care tasks to team members based on their qualifications and skills.
  • Follow infection control protocols rigorously, including hand hygiene and isolation procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Educate patients about expected outcomes before, during, and after procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with patient privacy regulations and maintain confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Identify and respond to emergency situations promptly, communicating effectively with the care team.
  • Adhere to established practice standards and regulations, including those set by JCAHO and OSHA.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Participate in initiatives aimed at improving patient safety and quality of care.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment by maintaining positive relationships with colleagues.
  • Share knowledge and skills with peers and new practitioners in a supportive manner.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required.

Licensure/Certification: Must possess a valid RN license in Massachusetts and current ACLS/BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Experience: A minimum of two years of nursing experience in an ICU or step-down unit is required, along with at least one year of telemetry experience. IV skills are preferred.
