Gallery Director Opportunity

We are seeking a visionary Gallery Director to lead our artistic and educational mission at the Lamar Dodd School of Art. This is a unique opportunity to shape and contribute to the School of Art, home to over 800 majors and minors, 40+ faculty in art, design, art history, and art education, and approximately 60 graduate students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Curate exhibitions by major contemporary artists, as well as commission projects by mid-career and emerging artists.
  • Develop exhibitions and related programming, managing administrative processes related to the galleries, including loan coordination, shipping, and insurance.
  • Travel to attend art fairs, conduct studio visits, and meet with key stakeholders to cultivate relationships with artists and raise the profile of the gallery.
  • Lead the effort to develop new sources of funding and revenue in partnership with the Art School's Advisory Board.
  • Coordinate with the Communications Director on gallery announcements, press releases, and accompanying signage.
Requirements:
  • MA in Curatorial Studies, an MFA in studio art, or a PhD in art history, or other related fields.
  • Exceptional accomplishments in Curatorial Studies or related area, with approval for a terminal degree exception before hire.
