Position Summary
Join our esteemed Fiscal Department and contribute significantly to our financial stewardship. As a vital member of our team, you will be responsible for preparing journal entries, maintaining reconciliations, and facilitating communication between fiscal and auxiliary departments. Your role will also include overseeing fraud prevention initiatives, conducting comprehensive reviews, managing fixed assets, and providing support to the Accounting Director. Bring your expertise in accounting policies, procedures, and regulations to a vibrant and collaborative environment where your efforts will have a substantial impact.
Key Responsibilities
1. Supervise cash management for auxiliary departments, ensuring proper training, verification of duties, and conducting periodic reviews.
2. Plan and implement internal reviews, including financial, operational, and compliance assessments to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
3. Generate detailed internal review reports, summarizing findings and offering recommendations for enhancements.
4. Train and educate staff on fraud prevention strategies and promote ethical behavior and compliance awareness.
5. Conduct monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, payroll benefit accounts, and other general ledger accounts.
6. Prepare and record entries for month-end closing activities, including payroll uploads and asset depreciation.
7. Review and authorize daily journal entries for entry into the accounting system.
8. Maintain records for capital and non-capital assets, ensuring proper tagging and conducting periodic audits.
9. Prepare, distribute, and file end-of-year tax forms such as 1099 and 1098T.
10. Reconcile stale-dated checks, contact owners for recovery, and file unclaimed property with the appropriate state authorities.
11. Serve as a backup for the Accounts Payable Specialist and Accounting Director.
12. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
1. Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
2. Two (2) years of relevant experience in accounting.
3. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook.
4. Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat DC for file management.
5. Experience with accounting software.
6. Understanding of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines regarding student information.

Physical Requirements:
1. The employee may sit comfortably to perform most tasks; however, some walking, standing, bending, reaching, and carrying light items may be required.
2. The work environment is a typical office setting, adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated, with safe use of office equipment and adherence to fire regulations.
Additional Information
Working Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
