Job Title: RSOC Training Specialist

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a highly skilled and experienced RSOC Training Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Information Security Office, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive cybersecurity training program for student employees.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain training programs using HackTheBox and other cybersecurity learning platforms to ensure alignment with NIST NICE framework and individualized development plans for students.
  • Manage and administer HackTheBox platform licenses and ensure training activities align with RSOC objectives, regularly assessing and curating HackTheBox modules to align with current cybersecurity threats and operational needs.
  • Develop an onboarding program for new student employees, including technical training and RSOC operational procedures, conducting workshops, live training sessions, and one-on-one coaching to reinforce cybersecurity concepts and skills.
  • Facilitate ongoing training sessions to ensure students stay updated on the latest cybersecurity threats, tools, and methodologies, mentoring students and helping them apply training to real-world RSOC tasks.
  • Collaborate with the RSOC Manager and engineers from the Information Security Office to align training with operational needs and future service offerings, tracking student progress and maintaining records of certifications and completed training.
Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizen, resident, or officially recognized asylee.
  • Two years of demonstrated experience in public speaking/presentation skills.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience delivering information security services.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience mentoring and leading teams.
  • Excellent written and oral skills, ability to work closely with multiple groups, manage expectations, and track engagement scope.
  • Strong technical acumen with the ability to be operationally conversant.
  • Demonstrated passion for teaching others about information security.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5-7 Years of operational cybersecurity experience.
  • 3 or more years using Splunk in a cybersecurity program.
  • Experience mentoring and leading student employees or junior employees who require a heavily structured onboarding process to ensure their success.
  • Experience assessing and finding security gaps to help improve security posture.
  • Experience consulting on cybersecurity with a variety of constituencies.
  • Experience in producing metrics to report on the UT RSOC program and impact.
  • Good knowledge of CIS & other industry standard benchmarks and frameworks.
  • Certifications related to security (CISSP, CISM, etc).
