As a pivotal member of our engineering team, you will be tasked with delivering specialized engineering knowledge across various projects. This includes conducting engineering assessments, developing preliminary and detailed designs, managing projects, estimating costs, performing calculations, troubleshooting issues, and preparing comprehensive contract documents such as drawings and specifications. You will also oversee construction administration and conduct field inspections for all facilities.
Your Role:
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams on diverse initiatives, ranging from straightforward tasks to intricate challenges. Your leadership will be essential in cultivating a culture of excellence and innovation.
- Mentor and guide early-career engineers and designers, leveraging your expertise to shape their professional growth and ensure a robust future for our engineering community.
- Utilize your electrical engineering acumen to spearhead the design and implementation of innovative facilities that align with our mission-critical research objectives.
- Provide support for the operations, maintenance, and commissioning of facilities.
What You Bring:
- A valid Professional Engineer (PE) license (not limited to Washington State).
- A strong commitment to mentoring and training, complemented by exceptional communication skills.
- Proven experience in leading technically challenging projects, with a talent for coordinating and managing diverse team activities.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of relevant experience -OR-
- Master's degree or higher and 5+ years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A solid background in electrical engineering with 10 years of experience in an architecture and engineering firm, along with a leadership mindset.
- Experience managing technically complex design projects while coordinating efforts among clients, various disciplines, and external consultants.
- Collaborative experience in contract procurement processes, including project types such as small works and major construction, and contract delivery methods like design/bid/build and design/build.
- A track record of preparing and managing design engineering budgets, schedules, and staffing resources.
- Expertise in NFPA 70, 70E, and 72.
- Experience in lighting design and controls.
- Familiarity with LEED or equivalent DOE High Performance Sustainable Building Standards.
- Experience in designing layouts for institutional research laboratories.
- Experience with direct digital Facility Management Control System design (HVAC system control).
- Ability to provide guidance to junior staff, designers, and drafters.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or REVIT design and drafting, as well as MS Office software.

Due to business requirements, US Citizenship is mandatory. Pacific Northwest National Laboratory adheres to the Department of Energy Unclassified Foreign National Access Program site, which includes specific information, technologies, and equipment access requirements.
