Job Title: Instrumentation and Controls Engineer

Job Summary

We are currently looking to fill a role for our client in Houston, TX for an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing sizing calculations for Control Valves, Relief Valves, Orifice Meters, Blanket and Make-up gas pressure regulators, Tanks Thief Hatches and Emergency Pressure/Vacuum Relief Valves.

Responsibilities
  • Instrumentation and Controls Design: Prepare Instrument Datasheets, Instrument Indexes, I/O Lists, Cable Schedules, Cause and Effect Charts and SAFE Charts.
  • Instrumentation and Controls Specification: Specify common industry instrumentation such as Pressure, Temperature, Flow, and Level Transmitters and gauges.
  • Review and Input: Review and provide Input to P&IDs from an instrumentation and controls perspective.
  • Leadership: Lead a design/drafting team when required to produce instrumentation drawings such as Instrument Wiring Diagrams, Instrument Installation Details, Junction Box and PLC Panel Layout Drawings and B.O.M.
  • Vendor Package Review: Be able to review and comment on vendor packages to ensure compliance with project standards and expectations.
  • Facility Control Narrative: Generate facility Control Narrative documents for projects which require such deliverable.
  • Factory Acceptance Tests: Attend, participate, and provide insight for Control System related Factory Acceptance Tests as required.
  • HAZOP Reviews: Attend, participate and provide insight during HAZOP reviews as required.
  • Technical Bid Evaluations: Provide Technical Bid Evaluations for project that require such level of analysis.
  • Out-of-Scope Activities: Be able to identify out-of-scope activities and interface with the management team prior to commencing work on such activities.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program.
  • Experience: 5-15 years of Related experience in Instrumentation and Controls.
  • Skills: Knowledge of Fisher Valve Specification Manager, Emerson PRV2Size, and FE-Sizer preferred and important for job duties.
  • Licenses: EIT or P.E. Licenses preferred, but not required.
  • Training: Tropical Helicopter Underwater Escape Training Preferred, but not required.
  • Software Skills: Able to efficiently use Microsoft Office Tools, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with API 520, 521, 12F, and AGA No. 3.
  • Communication Skills: Must possess excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Organizational Skills: Good organizational skills, flexibility, and interpersonal skills are a must.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to solve problems creatively, in a timely fashion, and have up-to-date knowledge and technical skills.
