Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of pharmaceutical services to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Medication Distribution: Accurately and efficiently pick, prepare, package, label, and deliver medications to the appropriate storage area of patient care units.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain adequate medication inventory levels based upon par levels, ensure proper medication movement through rotation of stock based on expiration and usage patterns, and remove expired medications or soon-to-be-expiring medications from inventory distribution.
  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrate proficiency and mastery of various technology utilized in the provision of pharmaceutical care, including EMR, ADS, Inventory Management software, and Barcode Labeling Programs.
  • Communication Skills: Respond to Nursing, Provider, and Ancillary Staff inquiries via telephone, in-person, or electronically, and maintain appropriate record keeping in regards to all forms of compounding, packaging, and controlled substances medication distribution.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree desirable.
  • Successful completion of an academic or military hospital pharmacy technician training course preferred.
  • 6-months Pharmacy technician experience or healthcare experience required, hospital experience preferred.
  • Current registration/licensure or eligible for registration as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of employment, as outlined by the respective State regulatory agencies.
  • Active Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification, or equivalent, is required on, or within 12 months of, date of hire.
Working Conditions

Employee may be expected to work on-call shifts, and is considered essential personnel and is expected to work during inclement weather. The employee is required to walk, sit, stand and crouch, and must regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.

The work environment noise level is moderate, and the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.

Language

This position requires proficiency in English, and the ability to effectively communicate with patients, staff, and other healthcare professionals.
