The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is seeking highly skilled professionals to fill the role of Tax Examining Clerk/Technician. This position is ideal for individuals who are dependable, quick thinkers, and enjoy problem-solving.
About the OpportunityThis seasonal position offers a unique chance to contribute to the IRS's mission of providing excellent service to taxpayers. As a Tax Examining Clerk/Technician, you will be responsible for researching tax issues, analyzing data, and taking corrective actions on taxpayer accounts.
**Job Summary:**
We are seeking experienced professionals to join our team as Tax Examining Clerks/Technicians in the IRS Taxpayer Services Division. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in researching and processing financial documents.
- Researching various sources, analyzing, and initiating actions on tax issues, including obtaining applicable returns, schedules, and all required information for correction of accounts and records;
- Securing payment of delinquent taxes and filing of delinquent returns; determining financial, levy source, adjustment, and uncollectible information; advising taxpayers of appeal procedures;
- May serve as a technical advisor, OJT coach, classroom instructor, or reviewer, and provide technical assistance on systemic problems and inconsistencies in IRMs.
This position is considered seasonal, typically lasting 4-6 months or 6-8 months, and may be extended. At the end of an employee's work schedule, they are placed in non-pay status and may be recalled to duty as workload or budget dictates and in accordance with their seasonal employment agreement.
This position has career progression. If you are selected at a grade level lower than the full working level, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses. For example, you may be hired as a GS-04, but if the position has career progression to GS-06, then you may move from a GS-04 to a GS-06 in as little as two (2) years.
RequirementsFederal experience is not required to qualify for any of the grade levels identified below. You will qualify for one of the following opportunities based on your specialized experience and/or education.
General RequirementsGeneral experience for this position includes progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This may be paid or non-paid experience.
Specialized ExperienceYou must have one (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience that is in or related to this position and provided you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position.
Benefits and CompensationThis position comes with a competitive salary ranging from $43,419 to $71,782 per annum, depending on location.
