Electrical Engineer Traction Power Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team in the Traction Power department. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting senior staff in the preparation and review of designs for complex electrification engineering projects and studies.
Key Responsibilities- Review engineering designs prepared by outside consultants for projects to be constructed by Amtrak and projects constructed by others on behalf of Amtrak to ensure compliance with industry and Amtrak standards.
- Provide Construction Related Engineering assistance when requested by Division Personnel and make field inspections as necessary to make engineering decisions.
- Assist in the development of new electrical standards and help develop prototype electrical equipment with manufacturers for use on the 25 Hz system and the 60 Hz system.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years in design of Substations, Transmission, SCADA, and similar facilities.
- Familiar with electric generation, transmission, and distribution equipment.
- Experience in design of Substations, Transmission, SCADA, and similar facilities.
- Familiar with Relay Protection designs and calculations.
- Familiarity with various standards and codes including ones published by the IEEE, AREMA and NFPA amongst others.
- Demonstrated experience in managing small to medium size projects from planning phase through construction.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, MS Project and AutoCAD.
- Must be computer literate and have good communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience of a minimum of five (5) years in design of Substations, Transmission, SCADA, and similar facilities.
- Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) test.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate.
- Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
This position requires a mix of office and field work, with approximately 25% travel. The salary/hourly range is $86,500-$111,996, and pay is based on several factors including education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc.
