Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support senior staff in the preparation and review of designs for complex electrification engineering projects and studies. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing engineering designs prepared by outside consultants and ensuring compliance with industry and Amtrak standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and produce electric traction designs, including calculations and drawings, for various projects and custom equipment.
  • Test and commission new and existing facilities.
  • Provide technical assistance in a matrix organization.
  • Collaborate with system and division project managers on project progress.
  • Manage in-house and consultant design projects.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of three years in design of substations, transmission, SCADA, and similar facilities.
  • Familiarity with electric generation, transmission, and distribution equipment.
  • Experience in design of substations, transmission, SCADA, and similar facilities.
  • Familiarity with relay protection designs and calculations.
  • Familiarity with various standards and codes, including those published by the IEEE, AREMA, and NFPA.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing small to medium-size projects from planning phase through construction.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, MS Project, and AutoCAD.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience of a minimum of five years in design of substations, transmission, SCADA, and similar facilities.
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) test.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate.
  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Work Environment

This position requires a mix of office and field work, with approximately 25% travel, mostly same-day trips.

Communications and Interpersonal Skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

The salary/hourly range for this position is $86,500-$111,996, based on education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, and other factors. Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential and offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward employees.
