Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Worker to join our Public Works Department. As a Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the operation, construction, maintenance, and repair of wastewater collection systems and related facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in cleaning and repair of the wastewater collection system in the City.
  • Maintain inventory of tools and equipment necessary to perform maintenance and repair activities; request parts necessary to perform maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain various records of maintenance and repair services.
  • Remove snow and ice from City facilities when necessary.
  • Investigate public complaints and determine source of problem.
  • Locate sewer mains for the City and other outside utility companies.
  • Operate construction and maintenance equipment such as trucks, tractors, and loaders for a variety of construction and maintenance projects at the facility.
  • Utilize a variety of hand and power tools; assist in routine maintenance of such equipment.
  • Utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed.
  • Assist in other sections of the department as necessary.
  • Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior when dealing with internal and external customers.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of safe maintenance and repair practices and procedures used at the facility.
  • Purposes and uses of a variety of vehicles, equipment, power tools, and hand tools.
  • Hydraulic, electric, pneumatic, and pumping systems at the facility.
  • Ability to perform unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in a variety of construction and maintenance activities.
  • Perform difficult manual labor tasks including lifting heavy weights, stooping, bending, and twisting.
  • Interpret City maps regarding the location of various City infrastructure.
  • Operate a variety of construction and maintenance equipment.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Provide functional and technical supervision to less experienced personnel.
  • Work effectively in the absence of close supervision.
  • Learn basic computer operation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in industrial maintenance.
  • Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
  • High school diploma or GED.
Working Conditions

The Maintenance Worker will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to physical demands, including lifting, bending, and working in confined spaces. The employee must be able to work effectively in a team environment and maintain a high level of productivity and quality of work.
