Overview
The Mechanical Repair Specialist will be responsible for the upkeep and restoration of machinery and mechanical systems, including engines, motors, and production equipment.
Required Experience and Skills:
A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required, along with one to two years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Responsibilities
*The following tasks are intended as general illustrations of the work in this job class and are not all-inclusive for this position.
- Monitor mechanical systems in operation and listen to their sounds to identify issues
- Dismantle equipment to access and remove faulty components
- Inspect parts for imperfections in form and texture
- Evaluate used components to determine necessary dimensional adjustments
- Adjust operational parts of machinery and control instruments
- Repair or replace malfunctioning components
- Install specialized functional and structural components in machinery
- Lubricate, maintain, and clean parts as required
- Start and operate machinery to assess their functionality
- Set up and operate metalworking tools such as drill presses and grinders to fabricate and repair components
- Weld, cut, and grind materials as necessary
- Perform repairs on electrical systems
- Assist colleagues as needed
Qualifications
Physical
- Must be capable of lifting up to 25 lbs., with occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to hear and comprehend instructions is essential
- Must be able to perform tasks ranging from sedentary to heavy work
- Will operate various types of office equipment
- Climb and maintain balance on various structures, including stairs and ladders
- Frequent use of hands for grasping, lifting, handling, or feeling objects is required
- Position may involve prolonged bending, twisting, walking, reaching overhead, squatting, sitting, or standing
- Must navigate uneven terrain and multi-level buildings without elevators
- Ability to walk on various surfaces, including muddy conditions and loose rocks
- Exposure to varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.) is expected
- Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- Must be able to operate vehicles and equipment such as cars, trucks, and forklifts
Mental
- Effective communication skills with management and supervision are necessary
- Ability to perform tasks ranging from sedentary to heavy work
- Competence in writing and performing mathematical calculations is required
- Ability to work at varying tempos and concentrate amid distractions
- Decision-making skills are essential
