Job Overview

General Summary:
As a Sales Specialist for Transportation Programs, your primary focus will be on enhancing sales performance through the effective acquisition of group pass sales. This position demands a proactive mindset in generating leads and nurturing relationships with various stakeholders, including local businesses, educational institutions, community organizations, and governmental entities. The ideal candidate will possess a robust sales background complemented by outstanding interpersonal abilities. Additionally, this role will provide support to the Marketing Department as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Oversee and promote all facets of the Group Pass Program (GPP), Vanpool, Emergency Ride Home, and Student Transit Pass (STP) initiatives.

2. Identify and engage new sales prospects to expand participation in the Group Pass program.

3. Foster and sustain positive relationships with local businesses, educational leaders, community organizations, and governmental and non-profit agencies to enhance program involvement.

4. Collaborate with Procurement to develop and oversee contracts related to the GPP, Vanpool, and Student Pass programs.

5. Partner with Marketing to implement promotional strategies aimed at boosting group pass sales throughout the year.

6. Work alongside local schools to promote, educate, and train staff on the administration and marketing of the STP program.

7. Enhance program usage within participating organizations through outreach events and marketing initiatives.

8. Develop Standard Operating Procedures for assigned program areas and cross-train other Marketing personnel on program components.

9. Manage the procurement and inventory of materials and supplies for the program.

10. Research and apply best practices to improve program outcomes in collaboration with department leadership.

11. Regularly update and maintain program information on the organization’s website.

12. Collaborate with the Digital Marketing Specialist to create consistent social media content that promotes and educates the community about available services.

13. Utilize the Umo Mobility portal for issuing passes, setting up clients, and resolving issues.

14. Maintain comprehensive data on all programs to prepare reports and communicate outcomes effectively.

15. Participate in community outreach and events, which may include occasional evening or weekend commitments.

16. Provide backup support for other marketing staff as necessary.

17. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • This position does not involve supervising others.
Fiscal Responsibility:
  • The incumbent will maintain program contracts but does not have direct financial authority.
Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job effectively. Typical qualifications include:

  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in program support, sales, community outreach, and marketing.

Preferred:
A bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, marketing, journalism, public policy, planning, psychology, public relations, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Knowledge of:

  • Communications and Media: Understanding of media communication techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and educate through various media.

Ability to:

  • Sales and Marketing: Experience in promoting and selling services or products, including marketing strategies, lead generation, and sales techniques.
  • Fluency of Ideas: The capacity to generate numerous ideas on a topic.

Technology Skills:

  • Microsoft Office Suite: High proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and a database program such as ACT.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
  • Normal office environment with occasional requirements to attend meetings or events in public settings.
  • Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, with occasional evening and weekend hours for specific events.
Travel:
  • Travel within the metropolitan area is required, with occasional travel outside the region.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean record is necessary, and the successful candidate must complete the S.M.I.T.H. System training program within 15 business days of hire.
