Job Title: Computer/Network Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Computer/Network Specialist to join our team at the City of Canton, OH. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer and networking equipment, hardware/software administration for various tools related to our network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Installation and repair of hardware/software, familiar with Windows, Mac, and iOS operating systems
  • Ability to provide operational support to equipment related to user desktops, laptops, tablets, monitors/displays, printers, security cameras, and VOIP phone system management
  • Assist end users with hardware and software issues by fielding telephone calls, email communications, help desk tickets diagnosing and performing troubleshooting activities
  • Document, track and monitor problems to facilitate timely resolutions
  • Provide in-depth (2nd tier) assistance to Tech II and Technology Assistants
  • Remain knowledgeable of advances in technology
  • Report for work as scheduled
  • Support the administrative team with managing user account administration
  • Support software/hardware components of network infrastructure and troubleshoot problems with communication protocols such as ethernet, fiber optics wireless and others
  • Maintain backup/recovery and virus protection on computers and networks
  • Assist with installation, configuration, testing and maintenance of all network infrastructure devices (cables, switches, routers, servers, phone systems, security equipment), software and peripheral equipment
  • Assists in troubleshooting and support for hardware, communications for all servers, networking components, workstations, telephone system, cellular devices, fax machines, etc.
Requirements:
  • Civil Service Eligible
  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in a computer/networking related field or an Associate Degree in a computer/networking related field combined with 2 years of computer/networking experience
  • Good communication and documentation skills
  • Confidential and honest
  • Available to work irregular hours or non-traditional schedule
  • Work as a member of a team and gets along with others
  • Must pass a criminal background check and have a valid Ohio State driver license
  • Must have reliable vehicle to travel between buildings within the district
  • Must be in good physical condition in order to move and install equipment
Desired Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of an educational organization
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, Google Workspace, V-Lans, VOIP phone systems
  • Experience in configuration of routers/switches, virtual controllers, and servers
  • Experience in maintaining firewalls, backups, filtering software and network monitoring tools
  • Proficient in DHCP, DNS and powershell
