Role Responsibilities:
The Point of Care Coordinator (POCC) plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and compliance of Point of Care Testing (POCT) across our healthcare facilities. The POCC is tasked with overseeing quality improvement initiatives, educational programs, auditing processes, and maintaining accreditation standards.
Key Duties Include:
- Regulatory Compliance: Conducts thorough quality assessments to ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements and institutional policies, safeguarding the licensure and accreditation status of POCT.
- Performance Oversight: Establishes and monitors effective procedures for specimen handling, testing, and reporting, serving as a resource for POC testing and guiding quality control initiatives.
- Quality Improvement Initiatives: Engages in the development of testing protocols and stays updated on regulatory changes, ensuring compliance with CLIA standards and CAP accreditation guidelines. Responsible for training and ongoing education of personnel involved in POCT.
- Instrument Evaluation: Collaborates with management to assess and recommend new testing instruments and methods, participating in validation and comparison studies as necessary.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Specific Degree(s): Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science.
Licensure/Certifications:
Preferred:
- Certification as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist, with specific discipline or specialty certification (ASCP or AMT).
