Position Overview
The Clinical Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting the healthcare team, practitioners, and patients to ensure the delivery of efficient and high-quality medical services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides administrative support to healthcare providers and clinical personnel, including scheduling appointments, correcting scheduling discrepancies, and updating appointment records. Engages with patients to confirm attendance and collaborates with providers on additional appointments.
- Welcomes patients, manages virtual consultations, verifies patient identity, and communicates expected wait times. Administers surveys and maintains accurate electronic medical records, including entering external results and preparing necessary documentation for provider review.
- May carry out specific patient care duties as per training, including measuring vital signs, transporting specimens to the laboratory, and preparing equipment for use. Responsible for setting up technology for interpreter services and guiding patients to various departments as needed.
- Manages incoming correspondence, performs scanning, copying, and faxing tasks, updates forms, answers internal inquiries, and may handle office supply requisitions.
- Ensures cleanliness and organization of clinical spaces, including preparing and restocking supplies. Conducts thorough cleaning of examination and procedure rooms between patient visits and at the end of each day. Regularly checks expiration dates of supplies and maintains linen availability.
- Conducts routine maintenance checks on medical equipment and prepares instruments for sterilization.
- Provides clinical safety support by performing daily checks on emergency equipment, managing sharps disposal, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Completes other responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old and possess the necessary education and/or experience to fulfill the required competencies outlined in the job description.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in healthcare, patient support, electronic medical records, or familiarity with medical terminology is advantageous.
Licenses/Certifications
- Must fulfill at least one of the following criteria:
◦ Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from a recognized organization
◦ Completion of Allina in-house BLS training within the first month of employment.
Physical Requirements
- Primarily sedentary work with occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.
