The Licensed Veterinary Technician plays a vital role in delivering exceptional care to our patients. As essential partners to the veterinarians, these technicians provide crucial support to facilitate seamless client interactions and successful procedures. Their expertise encompasses anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, laboratory testing, patient care, and client education. Key Competencies

  • Team Collaboration: Effectively coordinating with veterinarians and practice staff, providing timely feedback, and being receptive to suggestions to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Clear Communication: Delivering instructions to clients and team members to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Active Listening: Attentively following veterinarians' directions and understanding the needs of both clients and colleagues.
  • Organizational Skills: Meticulously tracking lab specimens, medications, patient instructions, and managing multiple cases efficiently.
  • Client Engagement: Striving for the highest level of satisfaction in all client interactions.
Core Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians in medical and surgical procedures and other necessary tasks.
  • Conduct outpatient examinations by gathering patient histories, vital signs, and weights, along with providing client education.
  • Prepare animals for surgery and monitor their vital signs throughout the procedure.
  • Collect blood, stool, and other samples; perform in-house laboratory tests and prepare specimens for external laboratories.
  • Take and develop radiographs while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Provide basic animal handling and restraint during examinations.
  • Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in exam rooms, treatment areas, and laboratories; restock supplies as needed.
  • Exhibit warmth, professionalism, and courtesy in all client interactions, demonstrating compassion and care for patients.
  • Communicate effectively with veterinarians and practice staff regarding client discussions, patient plans, and concerns.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Valid state license as a certified/licensed/registered veterinary technician.
  • Ability to lift patients and carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds; capability to lift heavier items with assistance.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety practices, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with MS Office applications.
  • Strong mathematical skills for calculating medication dosages.
  • Excellent communication skills to ensure patient safety.
