Job DescriptionJob Description
  • Answering / Triaging ER calls
  • Admitting patients into the hospital for surgical, as well as, out-patient procedures and treatments in accordance with hospital policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of common medications and their side effects, including both injectable and oral medications
  • Preparing treatment protocols for hospitalized patients under the direction of a veterinarian
  • Sterile placement and maintenance of IV catheters
  • Calculating / administering all manner of treatments, including medications / fluids (with or without additives) / blood products, as needed
  • Knowledge of use of medical / surgical / and monitoring equipment
  • Endotracheal intubation/ extubation and how to safely administer inhalant anesthesia
  • Ability to recognize and remedy an anesthetic crisis
  • Proficiently setting up and executing specialized lab tests / procedures
  • Including but not limited to ACTH Stims, Bile Acid Stims, Glucose Curves, Low Dose Dexamethasone Suppression Tests, Sedation for examination and treatment of fractious patients
  • Assist in training less experienced staff members
  • Appropriately updating clients as advised by the current veterinarian overseeing the case
  • Completing daily task lists to ensure cleanliness and smooth running of the hospital
  • Assisting with follow-up calls for recently seen patients
  • Assisting with specialists during scheduled exams
  • Physical assessment of patients and monitoring all vitals
  • Prepare anesthesia protocols for each patient under the direction of the veterinarian and calculate all drugs
  • Administer injectable medications (subcutaneously, intra-muscularly and intravenously)
  • Knowledge of fluid therapy requirements/calculations and use of fluid pumps
  • Ability to proficiently and closely monitor patient vitals through all stages of the procedure from pre-op to post-op. e
  • Recover patients from anesthesia and the ability to assess patient pain and work in conjunction with the veterinarian to provide appropriate pain management
  • Discharge patients under the veterinarian’s orders ensuring the patients are well groomed and in a medically appropriate state with the ability to explain all medications dispensed and home care instructions to owner in a clear and educational manner
  • Conduct one’s self in a professional manner under all situations and maintain positive relationships with other employees. MUST be team oriented. MUST be able to communicate and work with team members in order to resolve any issues in a manner that will best serve our patients
