Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse Educator and Medical Specialty Clinical Coordinator is a key member of the Nursing Education team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. This role is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs and activities to enhance the clinical competence of nursing staff and improve patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Chiefs, Nurse Managers, Medical Directors, and organizational Leadership to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for staff.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing education and competency programs to ensure nursing staff have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide high-quality patient care.
  • Provide education and support to nursing staff on new policies, procedures, and technologies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to address them.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to plan, direct, deliver, and improve holistic care.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with academic institutions and other external partners to support educational initiatives.
  • Manage the scholarship program, including mentoring and assisting applicants, budgeting, and financial management.
Requirements
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • At least 2 years of professional nursing experience in a clinical setting, with at least 1 year of experience in a leadership or education role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in nursing or a related field.
  • Experience as a clinical instructor or educator.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Vista, and Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint.
Working Conditions

This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations, operative/invasive procedures, or home settings.
