Palo Alto, California, United States Bluestamp Engineering Full time

BlueStamp Engineering offers a unique summer program where high school students engage in hands-on engineering projects. Participants choose and construct a project that sparks their interest, such as solar-powered devices, robotics, GPS technology, or miniature wind turbines, all under the guiding principle of "learning by doing." Throughout the program, students will document their progress online, showcasing a variety of project complexities from basic kits to custom designs.

Job Opportunities:
We are seeking dedicated and technically skilled individuals for two roles: (A) Lead Instructor and (B) Instructor. Both positions involve collaborating to support students in their project development, which includes imparting engineering techniques, safety protocols, technical documentation skills, and troubleshooting strategies. Instructors will encourage students to explore ideas and solutions independently.

Key Responsibilities:
Both roles entail the following duties:
1. Assist students in troubleshooting their projects.
2. Guide students in creating their personal project pages.
3. Inspire and foster a passion for building among students.
4. Help students define and select their individual projects prior to the program commencement.

Additional Responsibilities for Lead Instructors (A):
1. Oversee daily class activities, ensuring student safety and project organization.
2. Coordinate schedules for guest speakers and manage program logistics, including showcase events and instructor meetings.
3. Procure all necessary project materials and classroom tools in advance.

Program Structure:
Each staff member will be assigned to both a morning session from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM and an afternoon session from 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM, with a 30-minute overlap for guest speakers. The student-to-staff ratio is approximately 3:1, typically with four staff members assigned to each section. Each section will consist of 10-14 motivated students who have successfully completed a rigorous application process.

Compensation:
Both positions offer a stipend based on experience. Lead Instructors (A) can earn between $5,500 and $6,500, with an additional merit-based bonus of 25% of total compensation. Instructors (B) can earn between $3,500 and $4,500, also with a merit-based bonus of 25% of total compensation. All staff members must successfully pass a background check.

Candidate Qualifications:
For Lead Instructors (A): Candidates should possess exceptional organizational skills, maturity, and leadership qualities. Graduate students are preferred, although outstanding undergraduates may also be considered. Candidates should have education and practical experience in one or more of the following areas: (1) Electronics Hardware, (2) Firmware/Software, (3) Mechanical Design and Drafting. Significant experience in building, designing, and troubleshooting devices or prototypes similar to student projects is essential. Candidates should be prepared to discuss their projects in detail.

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in problem-solving and using engineering tools relevant to their discipline. Experience in teaching or mentoring students is highly valued. Candidates should be able to think and act swiftly to identify solutions that meet project goals within a structured, fast-paced environment. A passion for sharing the excitement of engineering with high school students and motivating them through the challenges of prototype construction is crucial.

Excellent communication skills, integrity, and the ability to work independently are mandatory.

All information will be kept confidential in accordance with EEO guidelines.
