Role Summary
The LPN is responsible for delivering safe and efficient nursing care tailored to the age-specific needs of patients and their families. This role utilizes the nursing process to help patients achieve and maintain optimal health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to the professional standards set forth by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
- Complete and submit all necessary documentation accurately.
- Provide relationship-based nursing care that fosters effective patient interactions.
- Exhibit technical proficiency in care delivery, ensuring safe practices and positive patient outcomes.
- Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively to enhance patient care and clinical workflows.
- Engage in personal development and contribute to the advancement of nursing practices.
- Demonstrate leadership qualities that positively influence clinical and operational results.
General Requirements
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Comply with all institutional policies and standards.
- Refer to departmental documentation for specific responsibilities during orientation.
- Safeguard Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with established protocols and training.
Qualifications
Education
- Completion of an accredited practical nursing program or current enrollment in a nursing program is required.
Experience
- A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience is required for Level II positions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of the LPN scope of practice as defined by the Ohio Board of Nursing is essential.
- Ability to operate various technical equipment to meet patient needs and administer prescribed therapies.
- For Level II roles: Completion of 18 Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) credits annually, including specific requirements in clinical specialties and leadership.
- Participation in peer reviews and committee involvement is expected for Level II roles.
Licenses and Certifications
- Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Ohio is mandatory.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
- IV certification may be required depending on the unit.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, and lifting (up to 50 lbs).
- Occasional climbing and balancing.
- Constant communication and coordination skills are necessary.
