Job Summary

As the ECU Head Start Lead Teacher, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Early Childhood Unit, ensuring compliance with Federal Performance Standards, State Licensing guidelines, and Cherokee Nation Policies and Procedures. You will be the primary point of contact for center staff, parents, and community partners, providing guidance and support to ensure the highest quality of care and education for our children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Directly supervise 5-20 employees in the Early Childhood Unit, providing guidance and support to ensure the highest quality of care and education for our children.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Individual Family Service Plans (IFSPs), and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) in collaboration with other faculty members.
  • Conduct home visits and parent-teacher conferences to ensure parents are engaged and informed about their child's progress.
  • Manage classroom operations, including maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment, and ensuring compliance with licensing standards.
  • Supervise and conduct activities for children according to the daily schedule and lesson plans, ensuring children are productively occupied at all times.
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate staff members, ensuring they meet the qualifications and standards set by the Cherokee Nation.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Federal Performance Standards, State Licensing guidelines, and Cherokee Nation Policies and Procedures.
  • Collaborate with other center staff to arrange monthly parent meetings and contact qualified presenters in the area of interest expressed by parents.
  • Encourage parent engagement and maintain good parent-teacher relationships.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood or Child Development preferred.
  • Or Bachelor's Degree in any field with at least 18 hours of Early Childhood Coursework.
  • Or Bachelor's degree in any field with an Early Childhood Education Teaching Certificate.
  • Or Associate's degree in Early Childhood or Child Development and experience in Head Start or Early Head Start.
  • Additional one-year experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of Database software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.
  • Valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
  • Commercial Chauffer's license and Bus Driver's certification class for those centers that require driving a bus.
  • Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) for preschool, Food Handlers Card, CPR and First Aid Certification, Medication Administration (MAT), Blood Borne Pathogens, Fire Extinguisher Safety, and Child Protection training.
Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Hours Vary
