Department Overview
The Fleet Maintenance Department is an integral part of the Transportation Services Division. We operate across multiple regions within our service area, providing essential vehicle maintenance and repair services for both owned and leased vehicles and equipment.
Position Summary
This classification is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1245, which has a long-standing history of advocating for employees.
Key skills include, but are not limited to, servicing and repairing Mobile Hydraulics, Aerial Hydraulics, conducting OSHA Boom Inspections, CHP BIT Inspections, and working with Diesel and Gasoline powered vehicles and equipment.
Responsibilities include maintaining and repairing company-owned vehicles related to gas utility operations, including service, construction, transport, and passenger vehicles, along with various types of equipment.
This position falls under the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol testing.Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
The hourly rate provided reflects the company's good faith estimate for this position at the time of posting.
Compensation is influenced by various factors, including skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market conditions, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to safety standards and procedures at all times
- Inspect vehicle and equipment components, documenting necessary adjustments
- Conduct thorough inspections to identify and troubleshoot repair issues; research problems using manuals, schematics, and service bulletins
- Utilize hand and power tools for disassembly, access, and reassembly of equipment; replace worn or damaged parts
- Perform routine maintenance services, including oil changes and automotive services
- Operate vehicles to remote locations for servicing and maintenance
- Maintain accurate records of completed work
- Ensure a clean and safe work environment
- Foster professional relationships with contractors and clients
- Collaborate effectively with team members and management
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
- Valid Class A California Driver's License Permit and DMV Medical Card by the first day of employment
- A minimum of 4 years of proven experience as a certified Journey-level Mechanic with light, medium, and/or heavy-duty equipment
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in various weather conditions
- Safely operate vehicles in all conditions
- Flexibility to work extended hours, including nights and weekends
- Capable of lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds
- Ability to maneuver around and under equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Own tools and toolbox
- Experience with air brakes, hydraulics, and heavy-duty diesel equipment
- Familiarity with regulated inspections and vehicle electrical systems
- Skills in welding and fabricating
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and blueprints.
