Educational Support Specialist

EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT SPECIALIST
Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma/GED or a Bachelor's Degree or higher in education. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in various data collection methods and their analysis to inform effective behavioral interventions. The role requires the ability to conduct and interpret functional behavioral assessments, leading to the development of impactful behavior intervention strategies.
Position Overview:
This role is essential in aiding educators to deliver both academic and behavioral support to students. The specialist will work closely with students to foster positive academic behaviors and address disciplinary challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement tailored behavior plans and intervention strategies for students, utilizing relevant resources and technology to enhance critical thinking, problem-solving, and social skills.
- Collaborate with educators to identify and develop individualized behavior interventions based on evidence-based practices.
- Gather and analyze data on student behaviors, recommending instructional adjustments to promote responsible decision-making and social skills.
- Empower students to build self-esteem and make informed choices in their academic and social lives, particularly those exhibiting impulsive behaviors or social challenges.
- Work collaboratively with school staff to facilitate smooth transitions for students returning to their home schools, including the creation of Transition Plans.
- Provide professional development sessions for educators on topics such as behavior intervention and social-emotional learning.
- Assist families and school personnel in accessing community resources to support student needs.
- Conduct workshops for parents to enhance their understanding of behavioral support strategies.
- Research current behavioral interventions applicable to the student population served.
- Ensure effective internal communication regarding student progress and concerns.
- Collaborate with school personnel to develop engaging Character Education activities.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress and incidents.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by school administration.
- Undertake any other related tasks as directed by the Principal or designated administrators.
Candidates must possess a comprehensive understanding of behavioral intervention methodologies and the ability to foster meaningful communication with parents and the school community. The role demands a collaborative spirit, effective communication skills, and a commitment to upholding professional standards.
Work Environment:
The position is primarily office-based, with physical demands including the ability to lift up to 25 pounds and maintain manual dexterity for tasks such as data entry and communication. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
