Oncology Nurse Specialist

As a Registered Nurse with American Oncology Network LLC, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support in our Messino Cancer Centers practice in Asheville, NC. This position requires a skilled and compassionate nurse to safely and accurately administer chemotherapeutic agents to patients, while also ensuring accurate and safe disposal of biohazardous waste.
Key Responsibilities:
Safely and accurately mix and administer chemotherapeutic agents to patients as ordered by physicians.
Use ONS standards and guidelines for accurate and safe disposal of biohazardous waste.
Perform ongoing patient assessment and ensure thorough and accurate documentation in OncoEMR of treatment rendered to patients.
Follow the Company's I.D. policy and procedure with every patient encounter.
Act as moderator/instructor for chemotherapy classes as needed, educating patients and (when appropriate), family about medications, side effects, and planned treatment course.
Prioritize incoming calls and messages from patients, family members, hospitals, nursing facilities, pharmacies, and physician offices from emergent to non-urgent, responding accordingly in an appropriate time frame.
Assist with inventory and re-stocking medical supplies, recommending purchase of new items as needed.
Have working knowledge of dispensing medications via Nucleus, able to perform cycle count, restock medications within the appropriate time frame, and enter all appropriate patient charges into Nucleus.
Attend annual Safety / OSHA training meetings, all mandatory staff meetings as necessary, and maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information at all times.
Assist in training new employees to related job duties and will be expected to work at any Company location to help meet the Company's business needs.
Requirements:
Registered Nurse, licensed in the State of employment, with experience in IV therapy.
Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital is required.
The ability to assess patient needs and conditions is essential, with strong critical thinking skills and the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
CPR & BLS certifications are required, as well as fluency in the English language with excellent oral and written communication skills.
A valid Driver's license, in state of residency, for travel to clinics.
