Fleet Maintenance Mechanic Job Description

Join the City of Clinton, NC team as a Fleet Maintenance Mechanic and play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our municipal vehicles and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment, including automobiles, tractors, and heavy construction equipment.
  • Conduct state-required safety inspections and ensure all vehicles and equipment are in good working condition.
  • Repair and maintain small engines and pumps, as well as perform scheduled preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Operate a range of equipment, including lift jacks, tire changers, and welding units, to perform repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Lubricate, repair, and replace parts and filters, and clean and replace spark plugs, radiator hoses, and belts.
  • Change, repair, and replace tires, including split rim tires, and replace and check brakes and hoses.
  • Check tire pressure and tread, rotate and change tires, and assist in adjusting and repairing engines, valves, carburetors, and generators.
  • Check and install batteries, fuses, fluid levels, brakes, and belts, lights, and air filters, and maintain records of service or inspections work performed.
  • Make road calls for repairs and clean work areas and tools.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by coursework in mechanical and/or electrical trade skills and some automotive and mechanical servicing and light repair experience.
  • Valid North Carolina commercial driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain North Carolina Vehicle Safety Inspection Certification within six months.
