About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Communication Systems Specialist to join our team in Hobbs, NM. As a key member of our communications department, you will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining various radio communication systems, including trunked radio systems, conventional radio systems, mobile radios, base radios, portables, control/dispatch consoles, and related equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain radio system software and equipment databases.
  • Configure and adjust radio settings as needed.
  • Develop, program, and maintain Kenwood and Harris radios.
  • Maintain control equipment for the wide area network (WAN) containing the trunked radio system.
  • Install, maintain, and repair the City's FM radio station - KHBX.
  • Maintain emergency radio communications interoperability equipment at numerous locations.
  • Modify, repair, and maintain the City's microwave radio system: analog and digital radios, frequency/time division multiplexing, antennas, towers, and related equipment.
  • Repair and maintain outdoor emergency alert systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair communications system malfunctions.
Requirements
  • A minimum of an Associate's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field focused on electronics or electrical technology.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the communications field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with public safety radio systems is highly desirable.
