St. Joseph County Government is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Maintenance Technician to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Lead Maintenance Technician will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of our facilities, ensuring that all equipment and systems are functioning properly and efficiently. This is a full-time non-exempt position that requires a strong background in electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems, carpentry, painting, and general mechanics.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform daily walk-thru and inspections of assigned buildings, mechanical rooms, restrooms, and note needed repairs.
  • Monitor and take readings on boilers, cooling units, and other equipment, maintaining computer-controlled HVAC systems.
  • Maintain plumbing and electrical functions in assigned locations, including panic buttons.
  • Assist in remodeling projects, furniture moves/transfers, and unload deliveries at the dock.
  • Empties recycle bins and delivers trash to the landfill, moving/carrying up to 50lbs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED.
  • Verifiable driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Must speak, write, and understand English to follow instructions and complete reports.
  • Comply with all county and department policies, including attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
  • Basic math skills, knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems, carpentry, painting, and general mechanics.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, manuals, blueprints, wiring, and plumbing diagrams.
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment, such as pallet jacks, pressure washers, drill presses, grinders, forklifts, and delivery trucks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the general public in a courteous manner, being sensitive to gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
  • Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and in a team environment.
Working Conditions:

This position requires occasional evening and weekend hours, as well as on-call for emergency situations.
