The Soccer Coach plays a vital role in fostering athletic skills and personal development among student-athletes. At Cornerstone Schools, we view the Soccer Coach as not only a mentor in the sport but also a role model who exemplifies positive values and a balanced lifestyle. This position is designed for an individual who can lead students in a competitive environment while promoting holistic growth—spiritually, socially, mentally, and physically.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure comprehensive supervision for all student-athletes during practices and games.
- Adhere to the established athletic policies set forth by the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA).
- Design and implement tailored training and conditioning programs to enhance skill development.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to support student-athlete retention and success.
- Encourage teamwork and uphold high standards for academic and personal development.
- Provide a structured schedule for academic study sessions for student-athletes.
- Foster an environment that promotes good sportsmanship and ethical behavior.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school personnel.
- Coordinate with the Athletics Director for scheduling practices and competitions.
- Maintain discipline and ensure proper supervision of athletes at all times.
- Engage with parents to keep them informed about program activities and schedules.
- Ensure compliance with all Charter School League and MHSAA regulations.
- Serve as a positive mentor and role model for student-athletes.
- Follow protocols in case of athlete injuries.
- Maintain the organization and security of soccer equipment.
- Complete required MHSAA training and meetings.
- Exhibit a positive image that aligns with the core values of Cornerstone Schools.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance coaching skills.
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
Tryouts
- Conduct tryouts in a structured manner, providing instruction to help students learn the necessary skills.
- Clearly communicate the evaluation process to students at the start of tryouts.
Off-Season Responsibilities
- Organize off-season training sessions in accordance with MHSAA guidelines.
- Work with the Athletic Director to assess uniform and practice gear needs.
- Communicate with parents regarding gear and uniform requirements.
- Provide student-athletes with workout plans to maintain fitness during the off-season.
- Prepare for the upcoming season by organizing materials and scheduling practices.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director to arrange non-conference games and tournaments.
Additional Duties
- Attend professional development meetings and coaching clinics to enhance coaching effectiveness.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Athletic Director or school administration.
Qualifications
- Minimum of an Associate's Degree or equivalent (60 credit hours) with a plan for a Bachelor's Degree.
- Demonstrated experience in high school or collegiate sports, with at least three years of coaching experience in the relevant area.
- Knowledge of athletic procedures and regulations.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Successful completion of a background check and drug screening is required.
