This is an exciting opportunity to join the VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION team as a Physician - Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our rehabilitation services.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Physician - Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist to join our team. As a Physician - Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist, you will be responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients with physiologic complications and deterioration resulting from musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, and other disorders. You will also be responsible for making appropriate professional entries in the medical record, making referrals and requesting consultations, and providing consultations within the scope of privileges.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Evaluates, diagnoses, treats, and manages patients with physiologic complications and deterioration resulting from musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, and other disorders which impede the maximal physical, psychological, social, and occupational potential of patients.
  • Makes appropriate professional entries in the medical record, makes referrals and requests consultations, and provides consultations within the scope of privileges.
  • Performs Electromyography.
  • Sensory nerve conducting velocity testing.
  • Motor nerve conduction velocity testing.
  • Tetanic stimulation.
  • Performs Intramuscular neurolysis.
  • Performs Orthotics evaluation and prescription.
  • Performs Prosthetics evaluation and prescription.
  • Performs Therapeutic exercise prescription.
  • Performs Prescription of various therapy modalities, assistive devices, and home programs.
  • Performs Consultation for preventative measures to maintain optimal functional levels.
  • Performs powered mobility and manual wheel chair evaluation and prescription.
  • May participate with various facility committees/meetings related to rehabilitation.


Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have the following qualifications:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.


Preferred Experience

Preferred experience working with amputees, prosthetics/orthotics, EMG's, and powered mobility/manual wheelchairs.

Education

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:

  1. Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or
  2. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
  3. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. [If the applicant does not claim an ECFMG certificate, facility officials must still confirm that the medical school meets (or met) ECFMG eligibility requirements for the year the candidate graduated.]
