Ambulatory Care Position Overview
OU Health is seeking a skilled Certified Medical Assistant I to join our team at the OU Edmond Multispecialty. As a vital member of our ambulatory care team, you will collaborate with Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers to provide exceptional patient care in accordance with state and federal guidelines.

In this critical role, you will contribute to the assessment and re-assessment of patients, monitor and document patient status, and ensure seamless communication between healthcare professionals. You will also perform various administrative and clinical duties, including taking vitals, patient history, venipuncture, lab, x-ray, referrals, and patient phone messages as directed by the provider and/or clinical supervisor.

Responsibilities and Requirements
  1. Direct patient care responsibilities include taking vitals, patient history, venipuncture, lab, x-ray, referrals, and patient phone messages as directed by the provider and/or clinical supervisor.
  2. Adhere to National Patient Safety Goals, contribute to the assessment/re-assessment of patients, and monitor/document patient status.
  3. Manage large call volumes while maintaining excellent telephone etiquette, organize workflow to meet patient needs in a timely manner.
  4. Retrieve/transport medications, instruments, and supplies, moderate exposure to hazardous risks, follow standard precautions.
  5. Stock exam rooms, take inventory, and order supplies, make scheduling arrangements with other healthcare professionals and facilities.
  6. Assist with procedures, maintain sterile field and specimen labeling when necessary, gather/document information about patient condition.
  7. Perform cleaning, sterilization, and/or high-level disinfection of scopes, probe, instruments, and equipment according to manufacturer instructions for use.
  8. Participate in the development of the plan of care, implement/evaluate appropriate patient care interventions which may include oral, intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous medication administration (exclusive of narcotics) as directed by a physician or physician assistant.
  9. Reinforce patient education about medications, post-surgical care, special diets, and changes in treatment plans, transmit prescription refills as directed, arrange hospital admissions and patient care services.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.
