Nurse Manager Job Description

This position is located within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), ICE Health Service Corps (IHSC), Office of Deputy Assistant Director of Clinical Services (DAD-CSU).

The Nurse Manager serves as part of the local leadership team (TRIAD) responsible for the health authority in collaboration with the clinical director and health service administrator.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all nursing services and ensure that nursing practice, principles, and procedures are implemented in accordance with national, state, and local nursing laws and regulations.
  • Supervise the assistant nurse manager, serve as reviewing official for federal nursing staff at their respective facility, and serve as technical monitor for all contract nursing personnel.
  • Function independently to ensure planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of entire projects or provision of complete services.
  • Serve as the nursing advisor to the local leadership team (TRIAD) regarding the total nursing care program and objectives.
Requirements:
  • 9 years of professional clinical nursing experience, with 4 years in a specialty area (experience in correctional health care preferred).
  • 4 years of direct clinical patient care (e.g., inpatient) nursing experience preferred.
  • Complete ICE Supervisory Leadership Training within 1 year of assignment and Advanced ICE Supervisory Leadership Training within 2 years of assignment.
  • Cultural competency maintained through agency/other training.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. Master's Degree in Nursing or related field preferred.

This position requires a strong understanding of nursing concepts, principles, and practices to perform nursing assessments of considerable diversity. The Nurse Manager must also have knowledge of correctional nursing concepts and principles, as well as demonstrated evidence of knowledge of nursing management and leadership skills.

The Nurse Manager will work collaboratively with the clinical director and health service administrator to ensure the delivery of high-quality nursing care to patients. The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
