Position Summary

The Wellness and Independent Living Instructor at Minnesota Independence College and Community (MICC) is tasked with directly engaging participants to impart essential life skills. This role focuses on aiding individuals in mastering and applying these skills across various domains such as culinary arts, meal preparation, grocery procurement, household management, fitness routines, and schedule organization. The Instructor plays a vital role in shaping participant objectives and personalized service strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate in crafting and executing participant-centered support plans that target independent living and wellness.
  • Conduct skill evaluations and develop tailored accommodations to enhance participant learning.
  • Foster trusting relationships with participants to inspire motivation through person-centered approaches.
  • Exhibit independent judgment, planning, and follow-through in all tasks.
  • Maintain professional and effective communication with stakeholders within and outside of MICC.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Instruction and Skill Development

  • Engage in teaching areas including Cooking, Meal Preparation, Grocery Shopping, Household Management, Fitness, and Transportation Coordination.
  • Design and deliver engaging instructional sessions that promote active and experiential learning.
  • Implement structured assessment methods to track participant progress and adapt instruction accordingly.

Service Delivery and Communication

  • Guide participants by setting clear expectations and aligning services with established guidelines.
  • Utilize digital platforms and technology to enhance instruction and participant interaction.

Documentation and Goal Monitoring

  • Record participant attendance and performance in compliance with tracking systems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation as per organizational policies and legal requirements.
  • Utilize progress reports to identify individual needs and adjust teaching methods to foster growth.

Collaboration and Support

  • Identify participants requiring special accommodations and work with advisors to implement effective strategies.
  • Ensure equitable access to resources and opportunities for all participants.
  • Engage with families, advisors, and community organizations to support participant development.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with adults with learning challenges or in educational settings is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
