Job Summary

The Estimating Intern plays a crucial role in the Estimating Department, working closely with team members to develop estimates for construction projects. This involves creating detailed lists of materials, labor costs, and other expenses associated with the project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review project plans and specifications to complete quantity takeoffs for assigned scopes of work
  • Solicit quotes from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers for indicative or firm pricing as needed
  • Prepare project understanding maps and other exhibits for estimating coordination using software such as Bluebeam and Google Earth
  • Assist with analyzing data, monitoring budgets, and prices using HSCC HeavyBid
  • Review and access cost estimates
  • Identify labor, material, and time requirements by researching proposals, blueprints, and related documents
  • Conduct risk assessments and participate in estimate coordination meetings, providing detailed meeting minutes
Requirements
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field from a four-year college
  • Strong mathematical abilities and proficiency in MS Office Suites, especially Excel
  • Ability to read construction plans and blueprints, with a strong attention to detail
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to read and interpret technical documents
