Job Title: Counselor for Academic Excellence and Student Performance

Fisk University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Counselor for Academic Excellence and Student Performance to join our team. As a key member of our academic support services, you will play a critical role in implementing retention strategies and activities that complement our University-wide student retention and academic excellence initiative.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement effective practices for student retention to ensure that support services are responsive to students' needs.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement learning workshops, supplemental instructional initiatives, and other activities dependent on students' needs.
  • Collaborate with other University departments to implement services aimed at increasing retention, particularly for first-year students.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, and other documentation related to retention.
  • Maintain accurate student records and input confidential student information into a computerized tracking system.
  • Utilize the EAB system as an early alert system for all students.
  • Work with student mentoring and tutoring programs to support students.
  • Proctor testing and assessment during Orientation or other scheduled times.
  • Facilitate and promote registration activities.
  • Ensure coordination of workshops and/or seminars in areas such as writing, study, and test-taking skills.
Requirements:
  • Possession of a master's degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in a college/university setting (preferred) or K-12 experience.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, goal-oriented.
  • Ability to serve diverse constituents and other publics.
  • Self-starter, independent, energetic, and enthusiastic professional.
  • Understanding of and familiarity with higher education and its organizational culture.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of historically black colleges.
  • Flexibility in scheduling and fulfillment of diverse job responsibilities.
  • Public speaking ability and possession of adequate writing skills.
  • Relevant leadership experience in a college/university setting.
Work Environment:

The normal office conditions of this position involve moderate noise levels. The employee is expected to work independently and as part of a team to achieve the goals of the University.
