Job SummaryThe Automation Engineer will be responsible for improving existing robotics, vision, and mechanical systems, developing new product concepts and prototypes, designing and testing mechanical and electronic systems, and developing and supporting various automated and robotic systems.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in control systems engineering, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering, with experience in PLC and HMI controls, robotics, and mechanical components.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, and enhance industrial automation systems and machines, including upgrades, modifications, and optimizations to existing PLC, HMI, and robot programs.
- Support automated systems and their control software to meet machine availability, performance, and quality metrics, and provide consultation or training when required.
- Troubleshoot problems with processes and hardware, including pneumatics, electrical, PLC logic, vision cameras, and robots.
- Identify weaknesses in automated production lines or finished products and recommend improvements for continuous improvement.
- Develop design documents, mechanical models, and tolerance analyses for mechanical parts and final products.
- Plan preventive maintenance and maintain program backups for all automation equipment.
- Conduct research, feasibility studies, and cost analysis for new equipment, sensors, and technologies, and document findings and present reports.
- Oversee the work of contractors and maintain technical project files in line with project requirements.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the manager.
- BSc in Control Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar.
- Knowledge of PLC and HMI controls (preferably Allen-Bradley).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Basic understanding of robotics controller and motion profiles (preferably Fanuc Robotics).
- Basic understanding of mechanical components and CAD software (Solidworks).
- Experience of working in a Manufacturing or Automation environment.
- A completed apprenticeship or additional courses would be advantageous.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and creative thinking skills.
- Ability to work in a team or alone.
- Self-starter with a passion for Engineering.
