Position Overview

Cancer Specialists of North Florida is seeking a qualified part-time Oncology Triage Registered Nurse to support our dynamic Specialty Practice. This role involves providing patient care for individuals with hematologic malignancies and oncologic conditions through telephonic communication within the Centralized Triage Department, encompassing both medical and radiation oncology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Exhibit proficiency in telephone triage and assessment, ensuring accurate identification of patient issues and implementing appropriate interventions with guidance from medical professionals when necessary.
  • Adhere to established protocols and procedures to execute medical directives.
  • Evaluate the educational needs of patients and their families, considering their physical and mental capabilities, and readiness to learn. Provide relevant instructional materials and guidance, while being aware of available community resources.
  • Monitor, interpret, and relay laboratory results, imaging, and other diagnostic tests to assess changes in patient conditions, ensuring all critical information is communicated to the healthcare team.
  • Relay imaging and laboratory findings to patients as instructed by the healthcare provider.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients, addressing their biophysical, psychosocial, educational, spiritual, and emotional needs.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing Canopy web portal and OncoEMR systems.
  • Document nursing evaluations, patient education, care plans, and medication refills in Canopy and/or OncoEMR.
  • Record all triage interactions with healthcare providers and patients, ensuring accurate documentation of symptom-related communications.
  • Serve as a resource for medical assistants and other staff members as needed.
  • Comply with safety and quality control standards, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and infection control protocols.
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic work environment.
  • Provide mentorship and training for less experienced staff members as required.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience, including at least one (1) year in oncology nursing.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Active RN license in Florida.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification preferred.
  • Completion of ONS (or equivalent) Chemotherapy and Biotherapy course or ONS Radiation certification required within six months of employment.
