Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As a Registered Nurse in our ICU, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to our nation's veterans. Your expertise in cardiac care will be invaluable in helping us achieve our mission to provide compassionate whole health care to our patients.

Responsibilities
  • Perform ongoing cardiac monitoring for patients with critically acute and chronic health conditions.
  • Demonstrate cardiac rhythm recognition, detect cardiac arrhythmias, understand arrhythmia significance, recognize symptoms, and anticipate or initiate appropriate nursing measures.
  • Perform ongoing assessments, noting changes in condition, and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Perform emergent care in acute/crisis situations.
  • Active participant of the facility Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT).
  • Floats and provides coverage to other units, as necessary.
  • Uses the electronic health record to document accurately and efficiently.

Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.
  • Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP) - See "Additional Information" below for details.
Qualifications
  • English Language Proficiency.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of ICU experience.
  • ACU/Telemetry/Emergency experience considered.
  • Able to work as part of a team in providing direct patient care.
  • Flexible, able to rotate through Medical/Surgical, APU, UCC & CLC.
  • Ability to adjust to ever changing work environment.
