Job Title: Concept Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Concept Design Engineer to join our team at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. As a Concept Design Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development of advanced systems, including missiles, autonomous aerial vehicles, autonomous underwater vehicles, and submersibles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and run models in various fields, including aerodynamics, mechanical design, controls, materials, and more.
  • Design and performance model development for different systems.
  • Develop algorithms and constraints based on real-world limitations to enable a multi-disciplinary design process.
  • Solve multi-objective system design optimization challenges to provide sponsors with the best solutions.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and/or C++.
  • Background in several subject areas, such as guidance, control, aerodynamics, structures, and/or propulsion.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • Background in researching and developing vehicle designs for multiple applications.
  • Ability to absorb perspectives of a sophisticated system and form a cohesive system-level view.
  • Experience in balancing analysis fidelity to answer questions.
  • DoD Secret Clearance.
