Marine Pipefitter Specialist

The Pipe Fabrication and Installation Technician is responsible for comprehending and utilizing blueprints, sketches, drawings, technical manuals, and work process instructions to measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to required shape using hand and power tools. This position must also have the ability to install prepared pipe into systems.
Key Responsibilities:- Lays out and fabricates piping and possesses the ability to install into established piping systems within technical guidelines.
- Reads and interprets basic drawings, technical manuals, and weld symbols.
- Passes tack-weld test procedure.
- Inspects work, identifies potential problems, and initiates corrective actions.
- Performs as a productive working team member that meets daily goals set by the supervisor.
- Must possess experience in the trade and knowledge of ship terminology.
- Must have working knowledge of procedures, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to follow directions.
- Uses and reads a tape measure.
- Lays out material.
- Fits-up material.
- Prepares for rigging of material.
- Conducts comprehensive torch and tac-weld work.
- Uses a radius gage.
- Uses hand power tools.
- Conducts Lock-Out/ Tag-Out.
- Has general knowledge of USN Standard Items.
- Possesses the ability to bend pipe mandrel pipe bender.
- Has proficiency in brazing.
- Understands rolling off set.
- Blow torches, motorized cutting torches, pattern cutting torches, and welding torches.
- Taps or dies.
This job operates inside and aboard ships both offshore and onshore as well as confined spaces. While performing some duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Must wear hearing, eye, head protection, and proper PPE when required. Visits may require standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching, and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary depending on schedule and job contract. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
