Job Summary

The Associate Dean of Student Services and Coordinator of Undocumented Student Services is a key leadership position at City Colleges of Chicago. This role is responsible for managing the Student Services Department and providing administrative direction and leadership for student-support operations within assigned areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Dean in managing the Student Services Department, developing performance goals and objectives, and implementing programs and services to support student success.
  • Supervise staff accountable for the oversight of assigned programs and functional areas, including advising, registration, testing services, and student activities.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and interventions that promote student success practices and integrate the functions of the Student Services Department in a manner that is responsive to student needs, campus life, and the community.
  • Assist in the annual budget preparations and oversee the department's budget and fiscal resources, participating in grant proposals for project funding as required.
  • Monitor budget expenditures and approve purchase requisitions and related expenditures.
  • Participate in the interviewing and selection of management and professional staff in coordination with Human Resources, enforcing personnel policies and procedures.

Undocumented Student Services

  • Serve in a lead role, working with key staff and designated Undocumented Student Services Liaisons across campuses to focus efforts on ensuring undocumented students receive equitable access to higher education and career preparation.
  • Lead work efforts to identify best practices and streamline processes to help undocumented students navigate financial aid challenges and access resources and services that support their retention and completion.
  • Initiate and direct the district-wide review of institutional policies and procedures directly affecting undocumented students.
  • Provide leadership with recommendations on strategies to help remove barriers undocumented students face while pursuing their educational and career goals at CCC.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of a CCC website and landing pages providing information, resource guides, and links to CCC support services geared to the undocumented student population and the community.
  • Ensure systems and procedures are in place to track enrollment, retention, and completion rates of CCC's undocumented students, analyzing data to assess success in meeting established objectives and goals.
  • Build working relationships with the Illinois Dream Fund Committee and coordinate the delivery of training and professional development to college liaisons and other key staff working with the undocumented student population.
  • Serve as a member of CCC's Undocumented Student Roundtable Committee/Advisory Council and other relevant college/district committees.
  • Remain current with legislation that may impact CCC's undocumented students.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to the Dean of Student Services. Direct supervision varies by college, with units and functional areas assigned at the discretion of the Dean and College President.

Qualifications

  • A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Student Services, Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, or a related field.
  • Five years of senior-level administrative experience in student services administration, preferably at a community college.
  • Experience motivating, mentoring, coaching, and developing departmental staff with sound supportive leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with diverse populations of undocumented and mixed immigration background students desirable.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues that impact undocumented and mixed immigration status students desirable.
  • Experience with the financial oversight of significant budgets and resources.
  • Evidence of participation in development/implementation of programs or activities designed to support student enrollment and retention and/or drive student success and engagement.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success, diversity and inclusion, service excellence, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to handle all situations with solid clinical judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and multiculturalism in one's work.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
