Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Director of Civil Engineering to lead our team in North East New Jersey. The successful candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering, excellent management skills, and the ability to work closely with our Executive Vice President.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Executive Vice President in communicating and enforcing company values, policies, and procedures.
  • Contribute to the organization's success by welcoming new requests and opportunities.
  • Provide a final review of reports, letters, bids, specifications, construction drawings, and other documents prepared by staff.
  • Assist with monthly invoicing and delegate project work to Engineers, Project Managers, and Project Associates.
  • Provide leadership direction through the sharing of techniques and problem-solving approaches.
  • Coordinate and manage internal kick-off, milestone, and closeout meetings for projects.
  • Continuously review the work of the department and verify schedules to ensure adherence to project plans and timelines.
  • Collect post-project feedback to identify issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor project performance, create and review project status reports, and provide guidance and mentoring to staff.
  • Communicate status and issues, resolve discrepancies and problems, and conduct on-site inspections to document existing conditions and evaluate civil/site work-related projects.
  • Record field measurements, perform calculations, and organize field data to facilitate analysis and problem-solving.
  • Maintain organized records, files, drawings, and other data essential to the project.
  • Review and understand construction plans and details, prepare written correspondence, and attend on-site and virtual meetings with clients, owners, contractors, and peers.
  • Prepare investigation reports, letters, bid documents, and construction cost estimates, and apply knowledge of local and state building codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Improve job knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing a professional network, and participating in professional societies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a four-year college or university.
  • Seven years of experience in the civil or site work-related engineering field.
  • OSHA-10 Certification preferred, otherwise must complete within three months from date of hire.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • A valid United States Driver's License is required for travel to and from client sites.

  • Ability to read construction drawings.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to manage time and within project budgets.
