Position Overview:
This role involves contributing to the design, construction, maintenance, and operational aspects of Transmission Lines within the Eversource Energy system. The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in design codes, engineering principles, and relevant software applications.
Key Responsibilities:
The Associate Engineer will engage in various tasks, including but not limited to:
- Design and evaluation of both underground and overhead transmission lines.
- Creation of supporting structures and foundation designs.
- Conducting clearance assessments and reviewing inspection reports.
- Providing assistance for Drone, Vault, and Groundline operations.
- Preparing documentation for regulatory and siting authorities, including drawings and reports.
- Representing the Transmission Line Technical Engineering Group in industry and regulatory matters.
Essential Functions:
Support for Capital Investment Initiatives:
- Assist in drafting project initiation documents, including estimates and justifications.
- Contribute to the design of transmission lines using specialized software.
- Develop technical details for siting and permitting, including public presentations.
- Oversee design specifications and material lists for procurement and construction.
- Document newly constructed Transmission Line facilities.
- Review inspections related to vaults, pumphouses, drones, and groundlines.
Support for Maintenance and Operations:
- Assist in investigating disturbance reports for transmission facilities.
- Provide engineering analysis to support maintenance and operations.
- Evaluate external uses of Eversource rights-of-way against established standards.
- Analyze data on Transmission Line conditions and offer technical recommendations.
- Collaborate with various internal teams for guidance on transmission facilities.
- Manage spare parts inventory to ensure material availability.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Understanding of civil, structural, and electrical engineering concepts related to Transmission Lines.
- Familiarity with construction techniques and safety codes.
- Proficiency in software tools such as PLS-CADD, Microsoft Office, and others.
- Knowledge of soil mechanics and foundation design parameters.
- Strong analytical skills and business acumen.
- Excellent communication abilities for technical presentations.
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree in engineering is mandatory, with a preference for Civil Engineering. An advanced degree or professional engineering certification is advantageous. While prior experience is not required for this entry-level position, familiarity with the electric utility sector is beneficial.
Working Conditions:
Candidates must be prepared for emergency assignments and potential travel as necessary. A valid driver's license is required.
