The EHS Compliance Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the organization adheres to environmental, health, and safety regulations at all levels, including local, state, and federal. This position is essential for fostering a secure workplace that minimizes risks and mitigates compliance-related penalties, as well as reducing workers' compensation claims and vehicle incident rates.
This role involves analyzing regional data metrics such as GEODIS & Temporary OSHA Incident Rate, Workers Compensation Reserves, and Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) incidents to guide the EHS strategic framework and cultivate a robust EHS culture across the region.
The EHS Compliance Manager is tasked with overseeing safety and compliance for multiple warehouse facilities across various states, collaborating with Corporate EHS for training, documentation, audits, hazard assessments, and incident tracking and reporting.
The role also supports the establishment and maintenance of ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety management systems standard.Furthermore, this position is responsible for managing facility training and support programs to ensure operational readiness across two buildings on campus.
Key Responsibilities:
-•Provides assistance to personnel in EHS-related functions
- Ensures comprehensive training for employees on safety protocols in accordance with regulations and company policies
- Aims to decrease job-related injuries
- Works to minimize Powered Industrial Truck incidents
- Strives to reduce commercial and fleet vehicle accidents
- Collects and disseminates near-miss data and preventive insights
- Prepares for the implementation of ISO 45001 Health & Safety standards
- Conducts Hazard Assessments and communicates results
- Coordinates the Return to Work program and manages workers' compensation claims
- Maintains EHS trackers to assist the Compliance Administrator in generating analytics for incident and injury trends
- Collaborates with the Workers' Compensation Administrator to gather annual injury data for reporting to state and federal labor bureaus
- Facilitates EHS training for new hires in line with company policies and regulatory standards
- Delivers EHS training, education, and awareness initiatives to employees and management
- Implements the corporate EHS strategy and policy directives
- Ensures compliance with DOT, EPA, IFS, and OSHA regulations, maintaining audit readiness
- Conducts annual compliance audits for EHS and IFS validation
- Updates training standards in response to changes in DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations
- Oversees monthly safety meetings
- Trains corporate trainers to support EHS training across facilities
- Collaborates with safety managers, supervisors, and coordinators to achieve EHS objectives
- Develops and writes regulatory training content for new hires, refresher courses, and targeted training
- Collects data for environmental and hazardous substance reporting in compliance with EPA Tier-II requirements
- Manages the reporting of extremely hazardous substances, tracking both small and large quantity hazardous facilities
- Works with Operations to address communal health issues reported by employees
- Monitors EPA training for Haz-Waste and Hazmat
- Assists in implementing solutions for new business startup processes
- Guides operations through EPA, DOT, and EPA site inspections to prevent citations and penalties
- Collects essential information for OSHA injury reporting related to serious incidents
- Collaborates with operations to ensure timely maintenance of commercial and fleet vehicles for DOT compliance
- Ensures the readiness of DOT commercial driver regulatory qualification files for audits
Additional Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution preferred
- 4 to 7 years of relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Essential Knowledge:
Familiarity with CFR29 Labor (OSHA), CFR40 Environment (EPA), and CFR49 Transportation (DOT)
- Understanding of hazardous materials storage, handling, and shipping
- Knowledge of NFPA regulations concerning flammable liquids and corrosives
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Competent in root cause analysis
- Experienced in facilitating external audits
- Adept at interpreting financial reports, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
- Skilled in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals
- Capable of effectively presenting information and addressing inquiries from various stakeholders
- Proficient in solving practical problems in diverse situations
- Able to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
