About the Role

Stantec is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Architect to join our thriving Healthcare practice in San Francisco, CA. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in guiding a team of design coordinators through all phases of Design and Construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead projects of large and medium complexity/size, ensuring timely completion and meeting client expectations.
  • Conceptualize building designs from a functional and aesthetic perspective, aligning with client requirements, budget, and program.
  • Develop designs through sketches, physical models, electronic models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats to express design intent and communicate with the project team, client, and building user groups.
  • Utilize Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies to develop three-dimensional models of buildings and their components.
  • Participate in design critiques and constructability reviews, ensuring design excellence and constructability.
  • Present designs to stakeholders during early project phases, developing building designs in accordance with cost parameters.
  • Develop space planning, block planning, and adjacency diagrams in coordination with building program.
  • Evaluate and select building systems and materials, ensuring compatibility with design intent.
  • Implement sustainable design principles into the design and environment.
  • Analyze site conditions, incorporating geotechnical, hydrological, environmental, social, economic, and contextual factors.
  • Participate in the development of the program and other pre-design efforts.
  • Ensure design intent is maintained through documentation and construction.
  • Lead others in project team settings and design critiques and pin-ups.

  • Engage in creative and critical thought, producing design at a level perceived as excellent externally.
  • Hand sketch and communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively.
  • Participate in project team settings, effectively communicating and collaborating with multiple stakeholders.
  • Lead one or more teams on medium-size projects through the development of design concepts.
  • Check work of others for accuracy and completeness, managing teams to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Interpret sketches, drawings, codes, building program, and other similar material.
  • Apply accessibility codes, applicable building codes, and life-safety codes to a wide variety of project scopes and complexity.
  • Produce and deliver design and documentation in highly collaborative BIM strategy.
  • Strong knowledge of building construction systems, constructability, materials, and industry-associated standards.
  • Strong understanding of the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Newforma, Bluebeam, and recent modeling software.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Architecture or a related field is required. Licensed Architect in California is mandatory. A minimum of 10 years of experience, preferably on large teams with healthcare or institutional clients, is desired. LEED Green Associate or LEED AP is preferred. Healthcare (OSHPD/HCAI) experience is also desired.

This role requires working in a typical office environment with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods. Field work may involve exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.
