About the Job:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supplier Identification and Recommendation: Investigate potential sources, research parts, equipment, machinery, services, and materials availability to identify and recommend suppliers that meet our business needs.
  • Supplier Evaluation and Certification: Conduct site visits to evaluate production capability, performance, delivery, and other key business criteria. Support or lead supplier certification surveys as part of a technical and/or quality team.
  • Proposal Evaluation and Negotiation: Evaluate proposals from potential suppliers and select suppliers for complex or technical materials, supplies, or services. Negotiate price, delivery, quality, and service terms. Develop alternate sources of supply by identifying and researching prospective suppliers.
  • Contract Administration: Negotiate final terms and conditions of purchase, award, and administer the procurement contract to conclusion. Maintain accurate lead times for the assigned area and issue purchase orders and agreements that reflect negotiated price, schedule, terms, and conditions, including international orders involving import/export trade.
  • Supplier Performance Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor and evaluate supplier performance, determining and implementing corrective actions to address potential supplier failures that may delay production or delivery. Resolve shipment quality discrepancies and facilitate inspections, substitutions, and standardization by coordinating with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Damage Claims and Dispute Resolution: Negotiate and settle damage claims, rejections, losses, return of materials, over-shipments, cancellations, and engineering changes with suppliers.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure suppliers meet all company and government or commercial procurement requirements, and address pertinent technical and quality issues to ensure compliance.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Prepare complex reports and analyses by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Recommend actions by analyzing and interpreting data and making comparative analyses.
  • Process Improvement: Apply continuous improvement techniques and methods to internal processes and systems. Develop, coordinate, and implement improvement initiatives with key suppliers. May lead or be assigned to special project teams.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of six years of increasingly responsible related experience. A Certificate in Purchasing Management (CPM) or APICS is desired.
  • Skills: Proficiency with standard business application software and specialized purchasing and materials systems (e.g., electronic data interface (EDI) or manufacturing resource planning (MRP) systems).
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to establish goals and objectives to complete projects and maintain regular meeting notes and actions from recurring supplier meetings.
