Job Summary:The Public Health Registered Nurse will be responsible for providing professional nursing care to clients in various settings, including homes, clinics, schools, libraries, and other community environments. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, community partners, and residents to prioritize the needs of Pima County residents and neighborhoods with the greatest need.
Key Responsibilities:- Administer general nursing care to patients in an assigned area, including clinics and homes.
- Maintain and interpret standards of public health nursing programs.
- Give medications and treatments under physician's orders.
- Review medical claims for appropriateness of charges relating to care and payment.
- Observe, record, and report patient's reactions, responses, and general condition.
- Conduct utilization reviews and/or quality assurance surveys and prepare related reports.
- Confer with physicians, managers, or department heads regarding Quality Assurance/Utilization Management (QA/UM) problems and recommend alternative solutions.
- Identify patients who have physical and emotional illnesses or disabilities, through observations and analysis of records, and assist families to secure appropriate medical, hospital, and other needed care.
- Plan, authorize, and coordinate medical equipment and medical services for patients.
- Collect data, compile statistical information, and prepare records and reports for use in program planning and evaluation, and in health-related surveys and studies.
- Receive and review emergency notifications from area hospitals and healthcare facilities.
- Ensure the maintenance of proper standards of nursing.
- Coordinate nursing care with other activities and programs.
- Demonstrate and teach nursing care techniques and/or orient new personnel.
- Assist in setting standards and evaluating personnel performance.
- Participate in maintaining a safe, orderly, and therapeutic environment.
- Write reports or conduct surveys as required.
- Supervise assigned personnel in a specialized patient-care function or unit.
- Assume responsibilities of higher-level nursing personnel in their absence.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with an associate degree and a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Arizona.
- Minimum one (1) year experience in a clinical setting.
- Experience working with low-income, multi-cultural populations.
- Experience working with electronic health records.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
