Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Food Services Specialist to join our team at the Bureau of Prisons. As a key member of our food service team, you will be responsible for assisting the Food Service Administrator in the management and direction of a team of civilian and inmate food service workers in the preparation and serving of all inmate meals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the management of the overall food service program for an inmate population of a Federal correctional facility.
  • Participate in establishing safety and sanitary procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring a safe environment in the department.
  • Supervise subordinate supervisors, who in turn provide supervision and instruction to inmate workers in all phases of the preparation, presentation, and timeliness of all food items on the serving line.
  • Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution.

Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship is Required.
  • See Special Conditions of Employment Section.
  • Must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service.
  • Qualifying specialized experience must have involved preparing and serving food in mass quantities for large groups of people.

Education:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.
  • Graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Additional Information:

  • This position IS NOT included in the bargaining unit.
  • The representative rate for this position is $84,656 per annum ($40.56 per hour).
  • Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a urinalysis, physical, and background investigation.
