KBR is in search of a proficient Terrain Modeling Specialist with 8-15 years of expertise to enhance our capabilities in crafting high-fidelity terrain models for simulation and training applications. The successful candidate will possess a wealth of experience in developing and refining intricate terrain models, demonstrating a robust comprehension of simulation technologies and a commitment to creating engaging training environments. This role involves producing exceptionally realistic and precise terrain models tailored for simulation and training applications. A strong foundation in geographical information systems (GIS), terrain modeling, and military operational contexts is essential. This is a full-time on-site position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Employ GIS tools and software to create and refine terrain databases. Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to accurately depict operational settings, encompassing urban, suburban, rural, and natural environments. Ensure terrain models align with performance and fidelity standards across various simulation platforms. Utilize diverse terrain modeling software to construct realistic and intricate landscapes, including elevation, textures, and features. Work alongside simulation and training teams to grasp requirements and incorporate terrain models into existing simulation frameworks. Conduct quality assurance and testing of terrain models to verify adherence to performance and accuracy benchmarks.
- Oversee and organize terrain model assets, ensuring they are systematically arranged and documented for seamless integration and future modifications. Collaborate with fellow 3D artists, developers, and technical teams to guarantee smooth incorporation of terrain models into simulation systems. Stay abreast of industry advancements, tools, and methodologies related to terrain modeling and simulation. Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting for terrain-related challenges during development and implementation phases.
Essential Qualifications:
Clearance & Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Graphics, Game Design, Simulation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Experience: 8-15 years of experience in terrain modeling and construction for simulation and training purposes.
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in terrain modeling software and tools such as Unreal Engine, Unity, 3ds Max, Maya, or comparable platforms.
- Solid understanding of terrain data formats, geospatial data integration, and optimization strategies.
- Experience with texture mapping, elevation data, and procedural terrain generation.
- Familiarity with simulation frameworks and standards (e.g., HLA, DIS) and their implications for terrain modeling.
- Outstanding problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work under pressure while upholding high-quality standards.
- Strong communication skills with the capability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degrees or relevant certifications are advantageous.
- Experience in terrain modeling for specific simulation sectors such as military, aerospace, or automotive training.
- Knowledge of additional software tools and technologies for terrain generation, including GIS systems or satellite data.
- Experience with real-time simulation environments and VR/AR integration.
- Background in scripting or programming related to terrain modeling and simulation.
