Job Summary

This position is subject to a Hiring Incentive up to $6,000. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Building Inspector. As a key member of our Code Enforcement department, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Town's zoning ordinances and building codes.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of residential and commercial properties to ensure compliance with zoning and building codes.
  • Review and approve plans for zoning and code compliance.
  • Consult with contractors, builders, and property owners to recommend changes and provide instruction for avoidance or correction of deficiencies and violations.
  • Perform field inspections to ensure compliance with all TCEQ and code regulations.
  • Prepare and issue verbal warnings, violation notices, and stop work orders to construction projects not being built in compliance with Town standards and/or other applicable regulations.
  • Respond to requests for code interpretation and application from contractors and property owners.
  • Maintain records of completed inspections and enter results into the computer.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3 years prior experience with municipal inspections and plan review or equivalent trade-related experience.
  • Valid State Plumbing Inspector License Required or ability to obtain within 6 months or two (2) ICC Certifications in building, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical field within 12 months of employment.
  • Prefer ICC Residential Combination Inspector Certification.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.

  • Bilingual.
  • Ability to establish and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with supervisors and other personnel.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to perform duties in a team environment.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of a computer.
  • Skills coordinating and managing multiple projects and/or assignments.
Work Environment

This position is primarily field-based, requiring regular travel to various locations throughout the Town.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provides excellence in customer service.
  • Reviews and approves irrigation, pool, accessory structure, additions, remodel, commercial, and residential plans for zoning and code compliance.
  • Consults with contractors, builders, property owners, and officials to recommend changes and provide instruction for avoidance or correction of deficiencies and violations.
  • Conducts irrigation field inspections to ensure compliance with all TCEQ and code compliance.
  • Performs field inspections of public and private construction and improvements for violations and/or compliance of plans, standards, specifications, regulations, permits, zoning, and/or Town code ordinances.
  • Prepares and issues verbal warnings, violation notices, and stop work orders to construction projects not being built in compliance with Town standards and/or other applicable regulations.
  • Responds to requests for code interpretation and application from contractors and property owners.
  • Maintains records of completed inspections and enters results into the computer.
